At Jade House Studio, we believe thoughtful design begins not by imposing a style, but by understanding what is already there - the landscape, architecture, history, materials and the lives that will unfold within it.
Our role is to listen first, then reveal what a place has the potential to become.
01 - Landscape first
Landscape is not something considered after the house. It is where the design conversation begins.
Light, orientation, views, climate, existing trees and gardens, topography and the character of the wider setting all inform the way we approach a place.
We seek to create a natural dialogue between house and garden, dissolving the distinction between inside and out wherever possible.
02 - Honour what came before
We believe in stewardship rather than erasure.
Older homes and established landscapes carry layers of history worth understanding before anything is changed. We look for what can be retained, restored, revealed or thoughtfully reimagined - from original materials and craftsmanship to mature gardens and architectural details.
Sometimes the most powerful design decision is recognising what should remain.
03 - Materials with meaning
Materials should do more than look beautiful. They should contribute texture, memory, character and a sense of place.
We research and source distinctive materials, finishes, objects and makers locally and internationally, looking for craftsmanship, provenance and the unexpected details that give a project individuality.
We value things that are made well, age gracefully and feel as though they belong.
04 - Inspiration without imitation
Travel continually expands our visual vocabulary - through gardens, architecture, materials, craftsmanship and the different ways cultures inhabit their surroundings.
We don't seek to reproduce another place or impose a predetermined style. Instead, those observations become part of a broader design language, interpreted thoughtfully for each individual landscape, home and way of life.
05 - Design for how life feels
A successful place is not simply beautiful in photographs.
It should change the experience of everyday life - where the morning light falls, where people gather, what can be seen from a window, how a garden is entered, where there is shade, stillness, privacy or surprise.
We design for atmosphere as much as appearance, creating places that feel deeply personal and instinctively right.
We believe the most memorable places evolve from landscape, history, craftsmanship, curiosity and life.
Places that feel as though they belong.
Places people never want to leave.
